Windows 2000 MCSE - FAQ
Windows 2000 MCSE-FAQ

With the release of Windows 2000, Microsoft will also be releasing a new Windows 2000 MCSE certification. In the same manner as previous certifications, the Windows 2000 MCSE will be based on core and elective exams designed by Microsoft and administered at a Sylvan or Vue testing center. Below are some frequently asked questions (FAQ) that should clarify issues surrounding the new Windows 2000 MCSE.

Q: How many exams are involved in the Windows 2000 MCSE?
A: There will be 5 core exams and 2 elective exams for the Windows 2000 MCSE

Q: Will any of the NT 4.0 exams apply toward the Windows 2000 MCSE?
A: Yes. The electives you passed for the NT 4.0 MCSE will count toward the elective requirement in the Windows 2000 MCSE.

Q: If I am currently an NT 4.0 MCSE, how many exams must I pass to upgrade to a Windows 2000 MCSE?
A: Two exams. You will need to take exam 70-240 and your choice between exams 70-219, 70-220 and 70-221. However, you must have passed the three current NT 4.0 exams to get credit for the 70-240 exam.

Q: When will my NT 4.0 MCSE expire?
A: Microsoft will expire all NT 4.0 MCSE's on December 31, 2001. This gives most MCSE's about two years to upgrade.

Q: I am halfway done with my NT 4.0 MCSE. Should I switch to a Windows 2000 MCSE?
A: Definitely not. The current market demand is still overwhelmingly for NT 4.0 MCSE's. Finish your NT 4.0 MCSE, and over the next year and a half you can take the 2 exams to upgrade to a Windows
2000 MCSE.

Q: When can I start taking the Windows 2000 exams?

A: The upgrade exams are available today for those who already have an NT 4.0 MCSE. All 7 exams will be in beta during Q1 and Q2 of 2000. The official exams will not be released until later in 2000.
