Microcomputing
Fundamentals One Day
At
the end of this course, students will be able to:
Identify microcomputer components including the CPU, motherboards,
cases and power supplies, memory, L1 and L2 cache memory,
video, sound and modem expansion bus cards, floppy, CD-ROM
and hard disk drives, chipsets, ROM-BIOS chips and communications/printer
ports. Understand micro-computing concepts such as interrupts,
DMA and bus mastering. Describe a simple boot process.
Differentiate between SRAM and DRAM. Understand the use
of device drivers and hardware installation process.
DOS
Fundamentals I One Day
At
the end of this course, students will be able to:
Navigate directory structures, create and remove DOS directories.
Create files and perform simple DOS operations upon them.
Label DOS volumes. Use DOS syntax rules to create well-formed
commands. Format drives and create system disks.
DOS
Fundamentals II One Day
At
the end of this course, students will be able to:
Manipulate files by copying, renaming, deleting, moving
and editing, as well as assign attributes to make them
hidden, read-only or system files. Use DOS syntax rules
to create well-formed commands. Use system commands to
optimize the computer operations or change the appearance
on the screen. Use path and prompt commands to change
the look and functioning of the operating system. Understand
the functioning of the DOS command interpreter.
Windows
Fundamentals One Day
At
the end of this course, students will be able to:
Understand the difference between an Operating Environment
and an Operating System. Know the advantages and disadvantages
of the Windows graphical user interface (GUI). Customize
the Windows desktop. Embed and link objects from one application
to another. Create and use shortcuts and change Start
menu items. Use system tools such as Scandisk, Defrag
and Back-up.
